nice piece...good point on the ice surface discrepancies but if he can find similar space in the nhl, that shot is quick and deadly

A sign the off-season is really revving up as the final four chase the Stanley Cup: Carolina has given Dougie Hamilton permission to talk to other NHL teams. Opens potential for a sign-and-trade...

The other thing this does: allows Hamilton to see if the Hurricanes do make the best offer for him…potentially allowing for a return if he doesn’t like what he sees out there. Very interesting manoeuvre by team and player

i can't believe he's 27 yrs. old already...seems like it was just yesterday when, as a rookie/2nd yr. player, pierre mcguire was creaming all over him calling him the next larry robinson at every turn

Feels like a typical Dundon move.

Hamilton would check a lot of boxes for the Sabres needs, but does his age fit the timeline with him turning 28 next month?

Evolving Hockey predicts his deal will be $8.5M per for 7 years, which would pay him until he's 34. That's not outlandish.

How much more would the Sabres need to pay, and will Carolina pay the going rate?

hamilton would be great next to dahlin...but his age and that price are disconcerting for, as you mentioned, the timeline they're on

Dahlin - Hamilton
Power - Jokiharju

The above sure sounds like a serious top 4.

It's depressing to have that be the reality, but depressing feels like the default state of being a Sabres fan.

Power is most likely going back to school next year.

Or do you think he is using that so Buffalo passes on him.

My top 4 does not necessarily mean it would be for next season.

What's Buffalo's and Hamilton's motivation to sign here?

Buffalo's motivation is Terry Pegula always wanting to go after the biggest free agents, regardless of it being a bad idea.

Hamilton's is money, money, money, proximity to his home town, money, money, and finally: money.

mountain mole hill, to use a recent cliche.

All scouts are saying he should go back. All insiders think he should go back. Guarantee his agent is suggesting he go back. He himself probably thinks he should too.

It doesn't matter who drafts him. If he's not ready, he's not ready, and it's not a big deal.

I know everyone seems to believe that money is the only motivation but every year we hear of guys all over the financial spectrum choosing fit over money.

*Money is also important

Do we have a strong feeling either way of Carolina paying Hamilton $8.5M per long term?

Trading Jack signifies you're not trying to be a contender. Why bother. I mean it would be nice to have him here for a few years. But what's the point.
